These application upgrades and improvements are completely free, and users can download them to keep the product updated and continue using it with new Windows or AutoCAD versions that come out on the market.

The download is done from the application. When Lands detects an available update, it shows the user a message with the link to the corresponding download page. For more information on this process, please see the Online Help. Below you can see the update history with the new features:

What’s new in Lands Design 4.9 Service Release 2:


  • AutoCAD 2017 support.
  • Lands Studio, the install package that included both Lands and nXtRender, is no longer available. Now you can get the same by downloading Lands Design and nXtRender separately. The “Lands Design nXt” buy option offers licenses for both plugins at a reduced price.
  • User Interface:

  • New icons.

    What’s new in Lands 4.9:


  • AutoCAD 2016 support.
  • Image Filters Application:

  • Lands now incorporates some Image Filters to get more spectacular results from the rendered images or from the view capture. The effects available include: Soften Portrait, Ink Sketch and Oil Painting, each one with its own parameters. You can apply more than one filter to the image, change the application order and activate/deactivate them individually. You can access the Image Filters Application from the Lands Design drop-down menu, or directly calling the _laImageFilters command.
  • Plants Paint:

  • New command to insert single Plants like if you were painting. As you move the cursor, the Plants are automatically placed in a triangular grid. You can change at any moment the Plant properties, like if you were changing the brush. You can also apply a Natural variation percentage on the size of the inserted Plants. And there is an option to Erase instead of Paint. Fun and useful! You can access it from the Lands Design drop-down menu, or directly calling the _laPlantsPaint command.
  • Walk mode:

  • New Walk mode, “FPS” style, that let’s you walk over the Terrain or fly free.
    • Move the mouse to control the look at direction and use the keyboard arrows (or A/D, W/S keys) to control the position.
    • Press SPACE to switch between Walk and Fly.
    • Press “+” and “-” to control the walker’s height.
    • Press the mouse wheel to increase/decrease the walking or flying speed. Press the center button to set the default speed.
    • Keeping the right button pressed the mouse wheel will zoom in/out and the center button will set the default lens length.
  • Zonify:

  • Zones can now be shown in 2D (hatch) and 3D (solid surface), so that you can use render materials on them.
  • Now you can create a Zone from a set of selected curves or regions, and not only by picking an interior point.
  • Now you can choose whether to show or hide the Zone label, and if the label will include the area value.
  • Label’s text can now have multiple lines.
  • Plant Shadows:

  • Hatch properties in Plant Shadows. Now you can use any hatch pattern for Plant Shadows to get more kinds of shadows and not only a solid color.
  • Terrains:

  • New commands to tag/untag as Terrain any existing mesh object. You can access them through the Lands edit panel, in the context menu section.
  • Forests:

  • Now it’s possible to add/remove holes to the Forest boundaries in order to get areas without trees.
  • Lands objects:

  • New command to copy an existing object over a different path curve. It can be used to create new Fences, Walls, Rows, Pahs, Stairs, etc. using the properties of the source object. You can access them through the Lands edit panel, in the context menu section.

    What’s new in Lands 4.7:


  • AutoCAD 2015 support.
  • Plant database:

  • Google Images in the plant database. Now you can enable image search on Google for the images shown in the plant database.
  • Terrains:

  • New tab in the Terrain properties to customize the output contour curves shown as a 2D representation of the terrain. You can now specify the Contour interval by directly entering the value or by calculating it from the desired number of contour curves. You can also create Index contours with a text that specifies the dimension value, as well as specify the color, line type, text height and distance between texts.
  • Plant groups:

  • New option in Forest, Plant rows and Shrubs to specify the percentage of “natural variation”, i.e. the random variation in the height of the different specimens.
  • Species:

  • New option in the Species properties to change the Setting out symbol.
  • Now Setting out symbols are drawn using the Species color.
  • Lands objects:

  • Now you can change the color of any Lands object, including Species, from the “General” tab in Lands Edit Panel.

    Imperial system of units

  • New Lands templates specific to the Imperial system of units.
  • Option to select the system of units (Metric or Imperial) at Lands start.
  • Terrains:

  • Google Earth data import. You can easily obtain height data from the Google Earth window.
  • New option to smooth the terrain mesh (in grid mode)
  • Use of the new AutoCAD 2010 (or later) mesh type, which allows exceeding the limit of 32000 points and creating more extensive and detailed terrains.
  • Terrain generation is faster.
  • Cuts and fills and holes are applied by elevating the terrain grid (in grid mode) instead of using Boolean operations, obtaining intuitive and foolproof results.
  • Cuts and fills and holes are applied in the order they were added to the terrain, allowing a better control of the final result.

  • The terrain box takes on the terrain contour curve properties (material, color, and layer).
  • When the user edits the color, material or layer of a division, the terrain is updated without regenerating.

  • Optimization of the plant 3D representation on the drawing. The “foliage density” property no longer affects the representation on the drawing and is only used in nXt rendering of plants. This reduces the DWG file size drastically and speeds up operations with plants.
  • Edit Panel:

  • When selecting a species in the edit panel, all the plants of that species are selected on the drawing.
