When creating a terrain using the default values, the result might not allow you to see in detail the slope and irregularities of the terrain.

For best results the user can change the generation parameters by editing the terrain. The user can edit the terrain directly using the edit panel, or by selecting it, right-clicking and then clicking on the “Edit…” option in the context menu.

The editing is carried out using the following dialog box:

Lands has two computational algorithms for its generation. In both cases, one may specify the resolution of the mesh that will be placed above the contour lines.

The resolution is specified by giving values to the cell sizes in the X and Y coordinates. The smaller the cell size, the greater the number of cells will be used to generate the terrain.

We must be cautious, however, for very small cell values can slow down the generation of the terrain, and besides, there comes a time when more representation detail ceases because not enough topographic information is available to allow changes in the slope run in consecutive cells. The latter occurs when the cell size is considerably less than the minimum distance between contour lines.

Therefore, the best way to adjust the detail of a terrain is to start with large cell values, e.g. 20 meters, and lessen the values until the quality-speed value becomes optimal.

Lands streamlines communication with the cost estimating software.

Each list that is created in the project (sprinklers, plants, pipes, street furniture, zoning…) can be exported directly to Excel. Using the cost estimating software, you can open the Excel file with the complete list and the number of inserted elements in the drawing.

To export:

Select the listing.

Right-click and select the Listing > Export option from the context menu. A drop-down menu will appear on the top of the resulting dialog box, showing all listings which have been inserted in this drawing.

Select the listing you want to export to Excel and press the “Export” button:

In the following dialog box, choose the folder to save the listing and specify a name. Before saving, it is important to check the file type: HTML or XLS. Select XLS.

Open the exported file with the cost estimating software.

NOTE: If you don’t use a cost estimating software, you make a quote from Excel.

Lands controls the layer management of each of the inserted elements. Thus fences, for example, are inserted with the “fence” layer. If a layer is not created for the item when it is drawn, Lands will create it automatically.

By default, the program uses standard names to create new layers, but these names and colours may be modified according to terminology, language and work characteristics of each user.

To edit the layer list, go to Lands > Options. Make the appropriate changes in the dialog box that appears. The list appearing on the left side (which cannot be changed) corresponds to the elements that the program manages by layers. The middle column is the name for the layer created when the element is inserted, and the column on the right represents the colour of the layer. By accepting these, they will then be applied to the drawing.

If desired, these changes can be saved in the template to use as start values for all projects.

Once the topographic mesh has been created from the corresponding contours, trees might have been inserted at z = 0, and therefore, not be at the surface-level of the terrain.

To easily locate the trees on the terrain surface, follow these steps:

Set the plan on a plan view.

Run the “Adjust to Terrain” command from Lands dropdown menu:

Lands > Edit > Adjust > To Terrain

Select the inserted trees and press Intro to accept the selection.

Select an elevation view and check that the trees are correctly located.

Before the tree elevation:
